Wow, this has been a long post! Busy weekend! I've currently got a banana bread baking in the oven, so I'm off to see if it's ready! Cheerio!
It's the other half's birthday on Tuesday, so I took him pod camping for the weekend! If you've never been pod camping before, do it! We've been to two different camps now, one near Wiltshire and this one which is pretty close to York. The site we used this time was called Yapham Holds Farmhouse and honestly, I would really recommend it. The owners, Steve and Janet were so lovely and full of local knowledge. They gave us plenty of eating out ideas and you can even get take away delivered direct to your pod! These pods come with a sofa bed, so you can chill on the couch during the day and then fold it down at night time. You do have to bring your own bedding though. The Wiltshire one had an actual bed with bedding, so they're all different. They also have a TV and DVD player and you can rent a little stove or bring along a BBQ if the weather's nice. The best thing about this site though were the chickens!! Steve & Janet let them run around pecking their little hearts out! They even give you a print out so you can identify which hen is which (my favourite was Martha)! The hens decided it was time for breakies, so they took over our picnic table and stared at us...we got the impression they were waiting for us to feed them (you can btw, Steve and Janet will give you some feed for free!). Martha is the massive brown lady at the front FYI! Some of these hens were rescued from horrible cage farms, so kudos to Steve and Janet! Since we were so close to York, we thought it would be rude not to go in for a visit. A little tip here for all you York lovers, use the Park & Ride. Seriously! We've been a few times now and finding parking in the centre is a nightmare. Park & Ride costs £2.70 and is a nice big, bendy, stress free bus journey! Our first stop in York was of course for food! We discovered that York has a Byron burger! If you've never been to Byron before, heck, you're missing out! The burgers are soooo tasty and you can get a side of macaroni and cheese, need I say more? Thought not! The waiters are always pretty entertaining too. Oh and if you're trying to be a bit on the healthy side, you can get the burgers bun free...no excuse now!! For those of you who know Oscar and I, you'll know that sometimes we can be a little smooshy (no schnizz, I hear you say?!). Now the last time we went to York, we saw this big bridge over the river Ouze and people had started putting those cutesy padlocks on (like the one in Paris). So we decided to attach one too! So cute! There are photos of others on my Instagram account if you want a peak. To finish off the weekend, we decided to go to Eden Camp. It is one of the coolest museums I've ever seen. Eden Camp is an old POW camp from WWII. The only thing I would say it that it is very information heavy. There are 29 huts all have displays of some sort for you to see. We spent three hours there and we really hurried through the last 10 huts, so I would definitely give yourself enough time to get around them all. They also have a cute little canteen and shop.

Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you. I have a serious whisky and gin problem. Not so much drinking it (don't get me wrong, I love to drink it!), but buying it, collecting it, showing it off. Well, to be honest I'm not the only one to blame. My partner in crime, Oscar, helped me out a little here. It all started when we lived in Glasgow and visited our first distillery (Dalwhinnie) and it's taken off from there. We even went on a whisky holiday to Islay (they have 8 distilleries on that island...lordy!). I know what you're thinking, we're out of control. You're not wrong! Maybe one day I will show you our collection. But I don't think you're quite ready for that yet...
I've been hankering after some pancakes for a while now, so instead of my healthy porridge this morning, I thought I'd be a little bit naughty and finally make some. I used a BBC recipe, which was super easy. I, of course, added some banana and lashings of maple syrup to top them off! The recipe makes between 4 - 6 pancakes depending on how big you want them. Go on, treat yourself!
Ever since we made fajitas on the BBQ on Monday, I've been obsessed with wraps. Yesterday I had a full on salad one with what I think is a wrap staple...guacamole! Love the schnizz out of guac!
Today I made the queen of wraps. First, I George Foreman'd the heck out of a chicken breast with a little smoked paprika. Then I stuffed the wrap with the salad staples and this time I added a little mango chutney. Yes, you heard me right! Mango blooming chutney. It was so nomtastic that I'm hankering after another! However, I must control myself as the leftover Easter chocolate is calling my name. Help me.... Morning! Following on from yesterday's post, here is the evidence to back up my naughty claim! a mammoth bowl of porridge, banana and maple syrup! Best way to start your day, trust me...
FYI this gorgeous bowl is from Ikea's new collection, get yourself down there! |
