Wow, this has been a long post! Busy weekend! I've currently got a banana bread baking in the oven, so I'm off to see if it's ready! Cheerio!
It's the other half's birthday on Tuesday, so I took him pod camping for the weekend! If you've never been pod camping before, do it! We've been to two different camps now, one near Wiltshire and this one which is pretty close to York. The site we used this time was called Yapham Holds Farmhouse and honestly, I would really recommend it. The owners, Steve and Janet were so lovely and full of local knowledge. They gave us plenty of eating out ideas and you can even get take away delivered direct to your pod! These pods come with a sofa bed, so you can chill on the couch during the day and then fold it down at night time. You do have to bring your own bedding though. The Wiltshire one had an actual bed with bedding, so they're all different. They also have a TV and DVD player and you can rent a little stove or bring along a BBQ if the weather's nice. The best thing about this site though were the chickens!! Steve & Janet let them run around pecking their little hearts out! They even give you a print out so you can identify which hen is which (my favourite was Martha)! The hens decided it was time for breakies, so they took over our picnic table and stared at us...we got the impression they were waiting for us to feed them (you can btw, Steve and Janet will give you some feed for free!). Martha is the massive brown lady at the front FYI! Some of these hens were rescued from horrible cage farms, so kudos to Steve and Janet! Since we were so close to York, we thought it would be rude not to go in for a visit. A little tip here for all you York lovers, use the Park & Ride. Seriously! We've been a few times now and finding parking in the centre is a nightmare. Park & Ride costs £2.70 and is a nice big, bendy, stress free bus journey! Our first stop in York was of course for food! We discovered that York has a Byron burger! If you've never been to Byron before, heck, you're missing out! The burgers are soooo tasty and you can get a side of macaroni and cheese, need I say more? Thought not! The waiters are always pretty entertaining too. Oh and if you're trying to be a bit on the healthy side, you can get the burgers bun free...no excuse now!! For those of you who know Oscar and I, you'll know that sometimes we can be a little smooshy (no schnizz, I hear you say?!). Now the last time we went to York, we saw this big bridge over the river Ouze and people had started putting those cutesy padlocks on (like the one in Paris). So we decided to attach one too! So cute! There are photos of others on my Instagram account if you want a peak. To finish off the weekend, we decided to go to Eden Camp. It is one of the coolest museums I've ever seen. Eden Camp is an old POW camp from WWII. The only thing I would say it that it is very information heavy. There are 29 huts all have displays of some sort for you to see. We spent three hours there and we really hurried through the last 10 huts, so I would definitely give yourself enough time to get around them all. They also have a cute little canteen and shop.
